 Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and Assessment Steering Committee

 Purpose

The SLO & Assessment Steering Committee is a standing committee of the Shared Governance Council. The SLO & Assessment Steering Committee is responsible for:

A.  Providing leadership to ensure that Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment processes at Los Angeles City College are ongoing, systematic and used for continuous quality improvement.

B.   Facilitating communication between the SLO and Assessment campus subcommittees:

  1. Academic Department SLO and Assessment Sub-Committee
  2. Student Services SLO and Assessment Sub-Committee
  3. Administrative Services SLO and Assessment Sub-Committee that provides an ongoing dialogue toward improving student learning at Los Angeles City College.

C.   Evaluating and making changes as needed to ensure that student learning improvement is a visible priority in all practices, and structures across the college.

D.     Contributing to the preparation of all required SLO and Assessment reports for:

  1. Los Angeles City College
  2. Los Angeles Community College District
  3. California Community College Systems’ Office
  4. ACCJC

  1. Vice President of Academic Affairs 
  2. Vice President of Administrative Services 
  3. Administrative Services Representative
  4. Curriculum Dean
  5. Vice President of Student Services
  6. Student Services Dean
  7. Dean of Institutional Effectiveness
  8. President of Academic Senate
  9. Coordinator of Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment, Chair
  10. Chair of Chairs
  11. The Chair of Curriculum
  12. Staff and Organizational Development Coordinator
  13. Student Success/Basic Skills Coordinator
  14. Matriculation Officer
  15. Articulation Officer
  16. Chair of Counseling
  17. Faculty AFT Representative
  18. Appointed Representative, L.A. College Faculty Guild, 1521
  19. Appointed Classified Representative, AFT Classified Staff Guild Local 1521A

All meetings of the SLO & Assessment Steering Committee are open to the college community.

 OPERATING PROCEDURES

A.    Co-chairs

The SLO& Assessment Committee will be co-chaired by The SLO & Assessment Coordinator and a co-chair from the committee membership voted on by the committee.

B.    Meetings

1.      Meetings are held once a term (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) TBA

2.      Additional Meetings as needed

C.    Duties of SLO & Assessment Steering Committee Chair

   1.      SLO & Assessment Steering Committee Chair performs the following duties:

   a.      Prepares the agenda

   b.      Facilitate the gathering of meeting materials

   c.      Keep records of the meetings. 

D.   Agenda Building

Items may be placed on the agenda as follows:

1.     Standing Items

2.     Regular meeting items such as review and approval of the prior meeting’s report and progress made on Student     Learning Outcomes and Assessment from all campus units.

3.     SLO & Assessment Steering Committee members may request that an item be placed on the agenda either prior to the meeting or at the beginning of the meeting.

4.     Members of the LACC community may request that an item be placed on the agenda by contacting the SLO and Assessment Coordinator

 DECISION-MAKING/RECOMMENDATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS

A.    SLO & Assessment Steering Committee is a standing committee of the Shared Governance Council, makes it decisions by consensus and then forwards any recommendations to the Shared Governance Council.

B.    The Annual Committee Assessment Report will be prepared by the committee chair and will be forwarded to the Shared Governance Council.

C.    This Operating Agreement will be reviewed once every two years.
